Bawumia Counters Mahama's Reset Call, Advocates for National Upgrade

Vice President and flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed former President John Dramani Mahama's call for a reset of the country’s governance if elected in the upcoming 2024 elections.

During a media briefing on Sunday, August 25, Dr. Bawumia described Mahama’s reset agenda as unnecessary, stating that Ghana requires an upgrade rather than a restart.

He asserted that his vision for the country focuses on modernization and progress, introducing 14 key commitments that he plans to implement if he wins the presidency.

These commitments include job creation, comprehensive tax reforms, and the transformation of Ghana into a world-class digital economy.

Dr. Bawumia also outlined initiatives aimed at reducing the cost of living, expanding public infrastructure, and enhancing access to healthcare.

He emphasized his plans to support affirmative action for women and girls, improve educational opportunities, and ensure good governance.

In response to accusations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) branding him a liar, Dr. Bawumia suggested that these criticisms arise from his ambitious vision for Ghana's future.

He stated that such accusations reflect a fear of his forward-thinking approach and belief in the nation’s potential to match the achievements of developed countries.

Dr. Bawumia criticized the NDC for what he termed an "impossibility mindset," which he argued limits Ghana's development.

He insisted that his policies, though futuristic, are grounded in the belief that significant advancements can be made if Ghana adopts a proactive and optimistic mindset.

Addressing the media, Dr. Bawumia asserted, "I represent the future. Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset."

He also responded to past allegations against him, saying, "People call me a liar, and I say at least I'm not called a murderer, or a drug dealer, or even Government Official 1."

Dr. Bawumia concluded by reaffirming his belief in the possibilities of technological advancement and economic growth for Ghana, calling for a mindset shift towards optimism and progress.

The media briefing was attended by several party members, supporters, and media representatives, further energizing the NPP's campaign for the 2024 elections.
