The Northern Development Forum (NDF) has expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence in Bawku, which has led to the loss of innocent lives and widespread suffering.
In a statement dated October 30 and signed by its chairman, Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd.), the NDF condemned the escalating conflict, which has plagued the region for the past four years, and called on the government to take decisive action to restore peace.

The forum lamented the diversion of critical resources from development initiatives to security operations and mediation efforts.
“Citizens of Northern Ghana are completely dismayed and traumatised by the intensity of the recent clashes,” the statement said, emphasizing the need for a clear government strategy to address the root causes of the violence and remove those perpetuating the conflict.

The NDF urged the people of Northern Ghana to reflect on the long-term consequences of violence, warning that persistent ethnic, traditional, and cultural disputes could derail efforts to improve the region’s socio-economic conditions.
The group highlighted the pressing challenges of poverty, illiteracy, and ignorance, which continue to hinder progress.
“Unless we the people of Northern Ghana unite in one accord in the pursuit of peace and development, we will dissipate our energies and resources in never-ending conflicts founded upon dubious historical narratives,” the statement read.
The NDF also underscored the importance of embracing the region's cultural and historical diversity as a source of strength and mutual respect, rather than division.
In a passionate appeal, the NDF called on all parties to lay down their arms and work together to create a better future for the next generation.
“Brothers and sisters, put the guns and swords aside and let us join hands to make our communities better places for our future generations,” the forum urged.
The NDF’s call comes as Bawku continues to grapple with violent clashes, leaving many citizens in fear and uncertainty.
The forum’s appeal adds to growing demands for sustainable peace in the troubled area.
