Wisconsin International University College (WIUC) Ghana celebrated its 17th Congregation today with a colorful graduation ceremony held at the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry auditorium.

The event saw hundreds of students donning caps and gowns, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

The ceremony was graced by the Chancellor, Dr. Paul Fynn; President, Professor Obeng Mireku; and other key university officials, alongside proud families and friends who gathered to witness this significant milestone.

Chancellor, Dr. Paul Fynn

In his address, Dr. Fynn commended the graduating class for their resilience and adaptability, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"You have demonstrated extraordinary courage and determination.

As you step out into the world, carry the values and skills you have acquired here to make a difference," he urged.

The highlight of the ceremony was the Valedictory Speech delivered by the overall best student, Dorcas Abena Gyan Boateng, from the School of Communication Studies.

Her speech resonated deeply with the audience as she recounted the unique journey of the Class of 2024, who began their studies amid the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Her speech struck a balance between inspiration and humor, reflecting on the journey of the graduating class.

"The year was 2020, the year of uncertainty and chaos.

As the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, we chose to rise above the fears, embrace the opportunity of higher education, and pursue our dreams.

Our journey began on the foundations of tenacity, endurance, and resilience—values, I believe, that have stayed with us till today."

She recounted her bold decision to switch from Nursing to Communication Studies, describing it as a leap of faith that paid off despite moments of self-doubt.

On a lighter note, Dorcas shared a humorous memory:

"It’s only in the School of Communication Studies where a lecturer like Mr. Kofi Yeboah will seal your assignment results in an envelope, only for you to open and see a 4/10 or 2/20.

He would tell us, ‘I have respect for human dignity.’ Even in our failures, we were treated with dignity and respect."

Dorcas also highlighted the practical experiences that shaped her journey, including industry workshops and her time at Wisconsin Radio, where she hosted programs like Lunchtime Vibes.

She concluded with a call to action:

"As we close this chapter and step boldly into the future, let us remember that WIUC has equipped us with more than degrees.

We possess the tools to drive meaningful change.

Let us commit to making a lasting impact whether by creating jobs, advocating for inclusive policies, or addressing social injustices."

The speech ended with a quote from Nelson Mandela: “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

The ceremony concluded with the conferral of degrees, diplomas, and certificates, celebrating the resilience and accomplishments of the Class of 2024.

Congratulations to all graduates.
