Giving Back: Kofi Yeboah Donates to Miaso

 By Shine Esi Kwawukumey

What began as a young teacher’s memory of a struggling rural school has come full circle thirty-three years later.

Kofi Yeboah, a communication lecturer at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, has fulfilled a long-held dream by donating about 700 books to Miaso Krobo D/A Basic School in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region, the very school where he once served as a national service teacher in 1992.

The books, which include storybooks for the lower primary and textbooks for Basic 1 to 9, were presented at a colourful durbar attended by traditional leaders, education officials, teachers, parents, and pupils.

“I still remember the classrooms made of mud with palm fronds as roofing.

Anytime it got cloudy, classes had to close because when the heavens opened up, it also rained inside the classroom,” Mr. Yeboah recalled, his voice filled with nostalgia.

“It has always been my wish to return to this school, and I’m happy that after 33 years, I’ve had the opportunity to come back and donate these books.”

The donation, he explained, was made possible through the kind support of Adwinsa Publications (GH) Ltd and individuals such as the Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.

For Mr. Yeboah, the visit was not just about giving back but about witnessing transformation.

What was once a dilapidated mud structure has become a modern school building with ceiling fans and improved facilities a sign of progress that deeply moved him.

“This is a huge improvement,” he said with pride.

“But we must not stop here.

The children need more learning materials, especially computers, to prepare them for a brighter future.”

He encouraged teachers to create special reading sessions and urged parents to nurture their children’s love for education.

District Chief Inspector of Schools, Seth Kofi Darko

The Fanteakwa North District Chief Inspector of Schools, Mr. Seth Kofi Darko, who chaired the event, commended Mr. Yeboah for his thoughtfulness.

“This gesture will go a long way to improve literacy and inspire others to give back,” he noted.

Head Teacher, David Siame

The Head Teacher of the school, Mr. David Siame, and the Odikro of Miaso, Nana Kwabi Opoku, also expressed profound gratitude, describing the donation as a timely boost for the school.

As pupils eagerly flipped through the colourful pages of their new books, the atmosphere was filled with joy, a reminder that one act of kindness, rooted in memory and gratitude, can light up an entire community.
